Seamless Skin Journeys: Redesigning an AI powered Skincare App
Redesign of an AI-supported skincare app aimed at simplifying complex user journeys and enhancing personalization
Role: Product Designer • Client: Aurora Aiona • Time period: 8 months

Problem statement
Overview
The client was a skincare brand with a mobile app that helped users track their skincare routines, product usage, and progress.
However, users consistently struggled with two core issues:
The interface was overloaded and confusing.
The onboarding flow failed to communicate how to get started.
Only 35% of users completed onboarding, and less than 20% actively used the app beyond the first week.

Old design
Process & Approach
Research & Audit:
Conducted 10 in-depth user interviews and 3 usability tests.
Mapped the full onboarding flow and identified redundant steps and unclear copy.
Mapped out a targeted user persona of the app
Wireframing & UX Redesign::
Reduced onboarding from 7 screens to 3 key steps, each with a visual cue and short benefit statement.
Simplified the information architecture: merged 5 navigation tabs into 3 — Home, Routine, Progress.

Building flows and wireframes
Defined key user flows for onboarding, routine creation, and progress tracking.
Built low-fidelity wireframes to validate structure and reduce cognitive load before moving into visual design.
Each iteration focused on clarity, navigation simplicity, and emotional resonance.

UI & Brand Refresh:
Adopted a light, minimal palette inspired by skincare packaging.
Introduced consistent spacing and touch zones for better usability on mobile.
Rewrote microcopy to sound human, calm, and reassuring instead of technical.

Outcome
The outcome of addressing these core problems was a comprehensive platform redesign that significantly enhanced the user experience.
After A/B testing the new design:
- Onboarding completion increased from 35% → 88%.
- Time-to-first-action dropped by 65%.
- 7-day retention improved by 2.3×.
- Qualitative feedback described the app as “clearer,” “soothing,” and “finally easy to use.”
