Problem statement
Overview
The initial version of the AI-supported skincare app had garnered a dedicated base of early users but was built on an outdated design framework. Over time, user feedback indicated that the app's interface felt cluttered, inconsistent, and difficult to navigate.
User feedback revealed that the app’s UI contributed to a 40% drop-off rate during onboarding.
Problems Identified:
Fragmented and cluttered UI leading to poor user experience
Inconsistent visual language and branding detracting from credibility
Difficult multi-step onboarding and skin assessment flows
Limited data visualization and progress tracking for users



Process & Approach
One of the core challenges was that patients needed very different things at different stages: some wanted to self-assess their skin with AI, others were looking for trusted practitioners, and others simply wanted educational content or direct booking.
To address this, we developed detailed user flows and user personas representing these diverse needs and behaviors. Through this, we identified the best UX and visual approaches tailored for each persona. Our design process focused on creating clear, intuitive user flows that unified these fragmented journeys into one coherent and seamless experience, ensuring each user's unique goals were effectively supported

Solving onboarding and quick skin reports
The onboarding was simplified by reducing the number of steps and focusing on essential information only, allowing users to quickly understand the app’s value and begin using key features.
We implemented a clear, guided flow with concise instructions and visual cues to minimize cognitive load. Personalization was introduced early by using quick skin self-assessments powered by AI, giving users immediate, relevant feedback.



Outcome
The outcome of addressing these core problems was a comprehensive platform redesign that significantly enhanced the user experience.
The redesign of the AI-supported skincare app successfully tackled major UX challenges by unifying its fragmented UI and establishing a consistent visual language that reinforced brand credibility.

- After simplifying the onboarding flow—reducing steps, adding progress indicators, and emphasizing quick, clear value—the completion rate increased to 75%.
